“I love giving people fun gifts that make them laugh! “

Alex Smart has two adult kids and lives in a small village in Devon with her patient husband.
They developed an entrepreneurial spirit whilst working in their parents’ shop from an early age. Later, they built on this, by studying for an MBA whilst working as an IT project manager.
After marriage, they threw their energies into raising a family and living more frugally. They entered contests in order to ‘put some icing on the family cake’ and their dedication paid off as the prizes rolled in.
As the kids got older, Alex decided to start their career afresh but realized that they wanted to work for themselves, from home, and be in control of their own destiny.
Alex started by investigating blogging and now has one niche blog and one general blog. Whilst taking an online Facebook course, they discovered Amazon Merch and began to create T-shirts to sell alongside the blogs.
This led onto Amazon KDP where Alex began creating low-content books such as planners and journals.
However, one Christmas, they were looking for something unusual and fun to put into their older teenage kids’ stockings, and Things To Do While You Poo book was born.
Since its publication in 2019, Things To Do While You Poo on the Loo has sold over a quarter of a million copies worldwide and reached the Amazon bestseller list in four different countries proving that there are lots of people out there that love a fart joke!
A chance encounter with a US visitor to the UK led to an interesting conversation. ‘We don’t call it the loo’, Alex was informed, ‘We call it sitting on the pot’. Having thought about this remark, Alex was inspired to create Learn A Lot While You Sit On The Pot based on bathroom humor and trivia. This book has sold 84,000 copies in the last two years.
Alex’s favorite page in the book is a wind scale factor (inspired by the Beaufort scale) where farts are graded from 0-12 with 0 being described as ‘calm’ and 12 being ‘Hurricane devastation. The air is filled with foam and spray and visibility can be affected’.
Alex created her books to be high quality but inexpensive, gag gifts for all those ‘hard to buy for’, people in life.
